Slowing Down During Maycember

Hello everyone!

The number of times I’ve used the word “Maycember” this week is a little wild. I hadn’t even heard the term until the Friday before Mother’s Day weekend, when I was at Trader Joe’s picking out flowers for my free Mother’s Day class. Turns out… everyone else had the same idea.

That weekend also happened to be prom, First Communion, and graduation for some families. And now, with Memorial Day approaching, we’re officially in the thick of it.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everything. Such as, (but not limited to)…

“I thought the field trip was next week… it was today.”

“I have to miss my son’s championship game because my daughter is graduating 8th grade.”

“I didn’t realize what day of the week it was, and completely overlooked xyz”

Or, if you’re like me and you’re running on iced coffee, that’s okay too! Right? lol

Even in the busyness, I encourage you to find small moments to slow down. Below are a few ideas—some I’ve tried, some I’m currently working on, and others I’ve heard great things about (because let’s be honest, I definitely don’t do it all!). Try one, try a few, or simply keep this as a gentle reminder to model mindfulness and presence in your own way.

4 Tiny Ways to Slow Down During Maycember

  1. BREATHE!
Play a short, breathing meditation on Spotify during your morning drive to school—it helps everyone start the day calm and connected. Here’s a playlist with some of my favorites (all kid-friendly). I also like the apps, Headspace and Insight Timer.

  2. When in doubt, write it out!
Whether you’re writing in a cutie notebook with cutie markers, or you’re dumping everything in your Notes app to organize later (like me), getting your thoughts out clears space in your head. I love using my Legend’s Journal to track my daily/weekly/monthly/yearly goals, progress, and thoughts! Here’s the link!

  3. Stay Present
These big milestone moments only come once. Try to notice them as they happen. Look up. Smile. Be in it with your kids.

  4. Notice the little things

I started a list of the things I love. It’s helped me stay in the present moment and appreciate the little things. Here’s my list.

This season is full—but it doesn’t have to be frantic. I hope you take a moment today to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the magic right in front of you. Hope to see you soon!!

Sending lots of love to you,

Jenna
